The Herbal Sage Tea Company

Founded 15 years ago by Maureen Burns-Hooker, The Herbal Sage Tea Company is one of the best known specialty tea companies in the United States.

Maureen draws her inspiration from The Herbal Sage Farms in Southeast, Ohio consisting of 200 acres of land. These acres are beautiful parcels of Earth Mother and have become natural teaching sites for the Herbal Sage Tea Company. There is an incredible assortment of wild herbs and flowers growing in habitats that range from meadows and woods to wetlands. Our wild neighbors include deer, black bear, beavers, fox and a wonderful variety of feathered folk that honor us with their presence.

Over the years we’ve worked in helping heal the woodland by working with the US Forest Service by fulfilling programs in eradication of invasive plant species and cutting grape vines to create a sustainable environment for at-risk and endangered plants. It is with a deep respect in our hearts that we invite others to share in the bounty and teachings of this land with us. Throughout the future year, we will begin to offer a series of workshops that emphasize our relationship to Earth Mother, to each other and the healing qualities of medicinal herbs. Our teachings will reach out to anyone that has a desire to learn and experience. We are planning a handicap accessible teaching Lodge, with an accessible path that leads into the woods for education and enjoyable excursions. We, at the Herbal Sage Tea Company strive to bring people closer, to not only their own paths, but to connect them with the plant world so that they may have an opportunity to experience Mother Nature’s Natural Pharmacy.

All Natural

In formulating and crafting her blends, Maureen uses only natural ingredients. Thus the herbal blends are free of any flavorings or extracts. Maureen also uses organic ingredients whenever possible. She seeks growers that can provide her with the highest quality herbs and spices, giving her finished products that same level of excellence.

Medicinal in Nature

Herbal Sage teas offer more than just great taste. Many of the blends are created with a desire to create good health. Calm Your Cough’ and ‘Tealady’s Cold Care’ teas help ease away colds and coughs, while the ‘Happy Belly’ tea soothes the stomach. Several other blends also offer their own distinct benefits that could give your body and mind the perfect balance. Whether it is the organic South African rooibos, full flavored organic hibiscus or the wildcrafted elderberry, The Herbal Sage has something for everyone.

If after searching through the many products Herbal Sage Tea has to offer you still can’t find the perfect blend, Herbal Sage Tea offers custom blending. Maureen uses her expertise to personally create a unique blend that meets your specific needs and can become exclusively yours.

Herbal Educator

Not only does Maureen want to share her products with others, but also her knowledge. Maureen spends several days a month traveling throughout Ohio and nearby states teaching others about women’s health, natural healing, and herbal medicine. She hopes to pass her wisdom down to benefit the well-being of others.

Responsibility to our customers and to the plants that we use to create our formulations. The Herbal Sage Tea Company uses organic plants grown and cultivated by certified organic growers. Plants that are not organically grown are sourced from ethically harvesting wild crafters. No endangered medicinal herbs are purchased from wild crafters, as we stand by our promise to allow these endangered plants to proliferate in the wild without compromise. By not purchasing endangered plants from wild crafters, we can help to put a stop to the illegal poaching of medicinal plants.

Integrity

The Herbal Sage Tea Company uses the most respected and thoroughly researched information about herbs. Our formulations consist of herbs that are generally recognized as safe, approved as such by the National Institute of Health (NIH). We stand behind each formula. Maureen Burns-Hooker, our chief formulator, has been working with herbs for over 25 years. Her expertise in the field of herbal formulations has gained her credibility, not only in the United States, but in Korea, and Taiwan. She is well respected, as a member of the American Herbalist Guild, National Association of Professional Herbal Clinicians and United Plant Savers.

Outreach and Education

The Herbal Sage Tea Company is a member of Athens Conservancy, The Sierra Club, and the United Plant Savers Sanctuary. We offer educational field trips to a 380 acre Botanical Plant Sanctuary in Southeast Ohio, as well as educational trips to our own Herbal Sage Farms located adjacent to the Sanctuary. These classes create an opportunity for hands on learning while educating people about the natural habitats of plants. We work with the local school system in providing educational material about habitat loss and how that affects medicinal herbs growing In our region. The Herbal Sage Farm offers classes on the added value of growing herbs as an industry. We have set up test gardens regionally to work with others in creating a network of local growers of medicinal herbs.
